Ownership of the Welsh Harp

A lot of people say that 'the council' should get its act together. We agree. But other custodians of the Welsh Harp should, too. Ownership is complex:

  • The reservoir and shoreline is owned by the Canal and River Trust.

  • The open areas are owned by Barnet Council and Brent Council.

  • The two inflowing rivers (River Brent and Silk Stream) are managed by the Environment Agency, which also oversees the reservoir’s flood control function.

  • Natural England advises on the reservoir’s environmental issues and adjudicates on the SSSI status.
